Victorian Forest Alliance Treaty Pledge
We, the Victorian Forest Alliance, acknowledge that the forests we work to protect and restore grow on the stolen lands of First Peoples. These lands, skies, and waters and the unique life they sustain have been nurtured and honoured by Traditional Owners for countless generations.
We honour the sovereignty of First Peoples, which has never been ceded, and the deep cultural, spiritual, and ecological bonds that tie First Peoples to Country. We recognise the ongoing impacts of colonisation — the dispossession, exclusion, and damage that continue to scar land, waters, and communities.
As an Alliance committed to protecting nature and standing up for justice, we understand that environmental justice and First Nations justice are closely bound. The knowledge, love, care, and connection to Country of First Nations people must be central to how the land, sky and waters across Victoria are protected.
We are proud to walk alongside the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria and stand in support of the work towards Treaty — a necessary path toward truth, justice, and renewal.
This pledge is more than words — it is a commitment to action. We will walk in solidarity with First Peoples, listen with open hearts, and stand firm for justice. We will actively seek out and engage with a broad range of First Nations people, respecting the richness and diversity of voices across Country
We call on our supporters, partners, and the wider community to do the same.
In support of this pledge, the Victorian Forest Alliance commits to:
-
Building and maintaining long-term, respectful, and accountable relationships with a broad range of First Nations people and organisations across Victoria.
-
Embedding truth-telling, justice and the recognition of unceded sovereignty in our public communications and campaigns.
-
Providing platforms for First Nations voices within our network — including webinars, events, newsletters, and social media.
-
Actively promoting the Treaty process among our supporters and partners, and encouraging ally organisations to also take the Treaty Pledge.
- Continuing to educate ourselves and our network about the impacts of colonisation, and how to walk respectfully and effectively as allies.
